    Does marijuana help you?

    A CREATIVE HIGH

CNN PRODUCER NOTE     CELESTIAL96 is a magazine writer, author and journalist who first started smoking marijuana in the 1970s. But it wasn’t until he relocated to the Caribbean that he started smoking it regularly, about once a month. “I cut down on my drinking and my quality of life as well as my creativity as a writer took off,” he said. “It just gives a very warm, mellow creative high that can't be explained. It has to be experienced.”

“My relationship to the 'blessed herb,' as the islanders call it, is one of respect and awe,” he said. “When a person smokes it properly, it awakens things in the mind and spirit that were asleep. I have never had a bad experience with cannabis. But I have had many bad experiences with alcohol until I slowed down and nearly eliminated my drinking.

”Do you wish recreational marijuana were legal in your state? Post your thoughts here.
    - zdan, CNN iReport producer

I am in my 70s and grew up during the Flower Child Revolution. Curiously, I never got into smoking marijuana although I lived in Los Angeles, worked as a reporter for a daily newspaper and covered the Love-ins, student riots, anti-Vietnam war demonstrations, etc. Although I tried it a couple of times, it did nothing for me. It wasn't until I interviewed people like Johnny Cash and Willie Nelson that I began understanding that the herbal plant known as ganja, pot, weed and the Blessed Herb in the Caribbean was something special. It made a person feel mellow and creative, it gave you a high without a hangover, and it even had a spiritual touch to it. To answer your question, yes, I would purchase this herb to smoke if it was legal where I live. I applaud the voters of Colorado for having the determination to tell the federal government that on the issue of making possession of marijuana illegal, you are wrong.
