This iReport is part of an assignment:
Salute to troops
I have a friend who mother takes old American flags cut them up and makes keepsakes that soldiers retired and serving to put in their wallet so they will know they would never be forgotten. Her name is Dot Quick. When she is done cutting up the flags what's left she takes back to the fire department so the mtrl is disposal properly.some of these old stars found their way to Afghanistan. The soldiers were so touched by her gesture they flew a new flag in her honor and sent it to her. What a wonderful gesture on their part. we were all crying we had know idea how much these tokens meant to our troops on foreign soil. I am hoping you find this story news worthy. Such a small gesture can mean so much.
the note that comes with these little star tokens says "I am a part of an
American flag that has flown over a home in the U.S.A.and can no longer fly because the sun and wind have caused me to become tattered and torn. Please keep me with you so u will know you will NEVER be forgotten."
