CNN PRODUCER NOTE Photographer MarloCueto was in Manila, capital of the Philippines, to witness the remarkable procession honoring the statue known as the Black Nazarene. The statue of Jesus Christ is thought to have been singed by fire while being transported to the Philippines by a Mexican ship in the 17th Century. It is borne through the streets of the city on certain occasions throughout the year, sparking scenes of intense devotion from the city's largely Catholic residents. "People will come to take a glimpse of the image, give reverence ... touch it and wipe their white handkerchiefs [on it] which is believed by millions to be miraculous," he said. "I have been witnessing the procession since 2009, and the feeling was great. I felt blessed and touched by the Black Nazarene as I silently pray, thank Him and offered my petitions as it passes in front of me."
