UPDATE ON THE DEMOLITION OF UPPER CLASS HOTEL, ONITSHA:

PUBLIC STATEMENT BY CHIEF BONAVENTURE C. MOKWE:
Events of 2013 in respect of the demolition of Upper Class Hotel, 8 Old Market Rd, Onitsha, was all centred on the staff, all of whom have filed the respective suits against the Anambra State Government (led by Gov. Peter Obi) and the Nigerian Police Force.
My intellectual disposition and comprehensive knowledge of governance counted for why I elected to come in at the final stage. Am fully aware, very much like every other informed person, that governance is all about confidence amongst the governed (the people). The moment this confidence is eroded, reputation, however cultivated, nourished or decorated, ceases to retain the clean slate assumption or belief of the head of the apparatus of that government.
Press interviews, which I granted, recognize the need to protect the sanctity of government. And that is why the hard-core information in relation to the demolition hasn’t been made public yet. Including the dubious 3rd world level attempt and damage control of a terrible misjudgement on the part of the government by the way of falsified charges, all in attempt to legitimize a terrible governmental decision.
This incompetence could easily have been rectified as soon as the whole adventure was seen to be a setup. Am aware that the chambers of Falana & Falana have filed a preaction notice against the state government in my favour. And it was filed this month of January.
But one point I want to make abundantly clear, a higher priority should be accorded to this case to avoid a situation where “I didn’t know” or “I wasn’t informed” statements will be coming from every quarter, most especially on the role played by the Awkuzu SARS & subsequent charges against me, under the auspice of being directed by the state government to do so.
Am willing to dialogue & my lead attorney, Femi Falana SAN, has all my authority to discuss & agree to terms with myself and the state government, so we can still retain the sanctity of our great state, Anambra State.
