“Ready to serve”
Angelita Generosa, 55, is serving homemade puto-cheese every day to the neighboring communities of Tie-One Gk Village, Mabinay, Negros Oriental. With her big smile and her natural vibrance, she is able to sell humble yet colorful puto-cheese inspired by her Gawad Kalinga house.
“This puto-cheese is a symbol of courage. It reminds me of how I live as a Filipino. It feels good when you give color to life and this resembles my spirit of not giving up! Now I am ready to serve with dignity unlike before when I used to stay at home and do nothing. We are gratified to all the members of the caretaker team who tirelessly mold us every single day,” Angelita said.
She added that from being a stranger to the word “Bayanihan”, today, they consider this more than just a practice but a way of life.
“Among kinasing-kasing nga pag pasalamat sa tanan nga nag hemo sa Gawad Kalinga.”
We all deserve to live and be thankful to God for he did not abandon us. He sent his disciples, the Gawad Kalinga volunteers. Every step of the way builds hope, restores dignity and inspires everyone to be heroes for God and country.
Time will come when they are also able to help other villages too - to cheer them up in times of despair and to share their stories of triumph despite difficulties. And most importantly, to share the stories they have learned during their values formation.
From then on, they could spread the spirit of bayanihan and the unconditional love that fuels every volunteer who come and visit their homes and family. Despite being little, this puto-cheese symbolizes the colorful lives of many Negrenses as we spread the work of Gawad kalinga knowing that there is hope in every Filipino. Mabuhay! Puto mo dihaaa!!!
