This iReport is part of an assignment:
Travel photo of the day
Patong Beach, Phuket
Today you'd never know it, rebuilt and booming and recovered.
It's as if the tourists have no memory of the total destruction on Boxing Day that year. The tourists were stacked in body bags on the beach by the thousands and the imagery of the destruction makes one ill to view.
Time marches on, and its as if there is no longer a will to remember what riveted the world but 9 years ago.
Photos taken January 5, 2014.
The death toll at Kao Lak, Phuket was over 10,000. The death toll at Patong was estimated at 4,000 though to this day no one really knows as many tourists were never recovered and there was no accurate census of the Phuket population.
Time marches on, and people have short memories.
