January 12 - National Marzipan Day

Today is "National Marzipan Day" the day of celebrating this delicious treat that has been enjoyed for over 200 years. What is marzipan exactly, a lot of people don't quite know what this delectable sweet is. Marzipan is an almond paste mainly made up of crushed up almonds and sugar that can be molded into a variety of different things, most common is animals or fruit. Some roll it out and use it as gourmet recipes for icing on cakes or inside of chocolate bars. The origin of marzipan is really unknown, but some suspect that it originated in Persia and others in Italy, however Germany has made marzipan one of its specialties. In some countries they replace almonds with cashews and even apricot and peach kernels. Marzipan is a delicious treat that everyone should get to enjoy, especially on national marzipan day!
