The greatest challenge to development in my beloved county Garissa is tribalism. Each tribe vote, stay close to, marry and prefer to work with those who come from the same tribe. Others are referred to as social enemies. This has gone to an extent that even appointments to both public and private employment opportunities are based on clan-ism and not merit and academic as well as professional qualifications.the key barrier to solving clan-ism in Garissa is the Electoral system that is in place to be overhauled. People vote based on clan-ism , our political backing is not based on the most fit and clean person, well based on ethnicity, the county is divided based on which clan live there. The other barrier is our collective mindset or the Garissa way of thinking. We as indigenous Somali people tend to think that we can only benefit when one of our own is holding a position or opportunity. It is high time we grow beyond this primitive way of thinking and put in place institutions that will protect and implement the law to its fullness. i believeTribalism will one day be a thing of the past as i am determined to provide positive thinking. I have a role to play.
