United States: No Hours or No Employment
People do what they have to do to make a living. If that means cutting someones hours, cutting them completely, or cutting down the establishment. Poverty has reached a new height in the United States as workers cannot find work; oddly enough if they find work they still cannot get hours. Why? What’s holding employers back? Taxes and a new and unimproved health system stand in the way for CEO’s and small business owners.
Taxes constrict small business owners from making top dollar on their services or products. Some small business’ may pay up to 40% of their income on taxes. Not too mention the new little clause that entitles employees to health care if they work over 30 hours per week on the employers' dime. Employers are legitimately required to NOT work anyone over 30 hours, in turn they are not forced to provide that individual with health care. This causes business’ to down-size instead of hiring more workers in hopes of making more of a profit. Only a small amount of extremely successful and established companies still have the luxury to undertake this current flawed system and make a profit.
What to do? I think that is the question everyone is asking. In my opinion, there is no way you can impose a tax on small business’ in the neighborhood of 35-40%. On top of providing health care for any employee working over 30 hours, this makes business growth unreasonable. Taxes need to be brought down into the ballpark of 30%, allowing small business’ to stay afloat and support its employees; even if that means paying for their healthcare. However, at the current rate, there is no surprise why unemployment is at an all-time high with these types of taxes and health care reforms placed on the shoulders of small business’ owners. Until someone who knows basic economics is in the position of absolutely power, there is no telling on how long this period of decline and despair will reside in this wonderful country we call the United States.
