2014 Design Trends - Tone Down Your Shabby Chic Shower Curtains
Decorating in 2014 is all about neutral colors, rustic fabrics, and antique furniture. While this isn't actually called shabby chic it is very evocative of it. The shabby chic look wasn't just something that happened in the 1990s. We're seeing a much more toned down and subtle version in 2014. In fact, even if you haven't updated your room since 1990 here are some easy changes you could make to get it ready for this year.
The update for this year is that fabric in general is more subtle. Use solid colors instead of the traditional rose pattern. Look for crisp white hotel style linens. This could even have a black border around it and you could pair it with toile accessories.
The one pattern you can use a lot of that's been new in the past few years is the quatrefoil look. This can also be called clover or lattice shaped. It works well in traditional pink and white tones. However, it's feminine enough that you could also use turquoise or gray against a bright white background. Keep the rest of the room white and have this be the only spot of color in the room.
White furniture such as end tables and nightstands have always been popular in this look. However, in 2014 we're seeing less distressing. Instead white washing, or gray stained furniture is much more popular and contemporary.
Mixing and matching fabrics has always been popular in these style rooms. However, now it's all about textures and one main patterned fabric. Ticking stripes can feel very country so look for turquois and pink to lighten it up. Linen was a popular fabric choice in 2013 and will remain a staple in 2014. These cream tones fit shabby chic colors perfectly.
Do you still like the shabby chic look and which one of these updates is your favorite?
