    Beatlemania memories

    The Waiting Game

The first time I heard a Beatles song I was hooked. They were fresh to my ears. I attended their concert in Indianapolis with my friend Nancy who preferred The Beachboys. We were in the nosebleed section at
the Coliseum and barely heard a note for the screaming. The amplifiers were very small by today's standards. The word ANTICIPATION best describes my obsession. I waited eagerly for them to arrive in the US. I waited for them appear on Ed Sullivan, for each album, for my concert tickets, for the concert, for each album, for class to end so I could listen to my Beatle's records. They were worth the wait.

I was a freshman in college at William Woods in Fulton,MO when the Beatles appeared on Ed Sullivan, February 9, 1964.    A group of us went to a professor's house to watch.  I think the first song they sang was "All My Loving".
They appeared on 3 consecutive Sundays.    They were cute,  funny and talented!

It was frustrating  waiting for their first album to be released  the following

April but you could find them on the radio.     I did own some Capital Records, VeeJay and MGM 45 RPMs (singles)  that I bought in 1963.   "Please Please Me" was one of the songs.          I don't recall all the dates,  but each album release was a big deal for those of us who loved them.

They were on Sullivan's show for three  consecutive Sundays.    My friends and I quickly found that The Beatles were cute,  funny and talented!

I think my own enthusiasm for the group was in part created  by their harmonies  which is what I still love about their work     It's  a cliche' but they really did provide  the soundtrack of my college years., eclipsing   The Kingston Trio  who had  previously been my musical obsession.

Recently I was on my way to church and picked
up a Dayton radio station that was playing Beatles  songs,  one after the other.
    I skipped church that day.
