Altruism in Power Restoration Works
Backed with GawadKalinga experience, I spoke with the workers – stressing that the opportunity to offer self-sacrifice by continuing the works on December 25 is seldom given by the Lord. I emphasized the need to rise above oneself, to be a hero, to have a story to tell their sons, grandsons and great grandsons that once in their lifetime, they have rendered true altruism, which is a mark of true heroism.
On the 25th of December, 80% of the volunteers and workers stayed to render services, which resulted to advance the restoration activities from its original target completion. Truly, a single act of kindness can definitely create a ripple effect that could touch one’s heart and continue to exponentially expand to be a blessing to other’s lives. Knowing that I am able to plant a seed of heroism to 160 awesome souls made me not only feeling deeply accomplished but elated with such joy in my heart.
Without a doubt, with all these things unfolding before my eyes, I re-crystallized my conviction that there’s still faith and heroism in humanity. Together we can do great things and achieve CHANGE from doing such small acts of benevolence and altruism. Humbly enough, I was a part of that change that restored not only the power for the province of Leyte but also the lives of thousands of ordinary people doing extraordinary works.
