An Afghan Atheist: On the Right to Asylum on Religious Ground II

Indeed, as argued lucidly by the lawyers, “someone of no religious faith at all could face even greater danger in Afghanistan than a member of a minority religion such as Christianity.”

If the Afghan authorities are prosecuting and persecuting people from the religious minority, what more those individuals who have no religion at all?

It goes without saying that those people, those atheists, are in a far more dangerous situation that those people who has religion, albeit belong to the minority.

Lastly, I am fully concurring with the view of the British Humanist Association when they dubbed and tagged this case of that Afghan atheist as “the first case of asylum granted in UK under Refugee Convention on the basis of atheism.”

The freedom to believe, to act on one’s beliefs and for free thought must be defended at all cost…

In the moving words of Hermann Hesse in his Siddharta:

“It may be important to great thinkers to examine the world, to explain and despise it. But I think it is only important to love the world, not to despise it, not for us to hate each other, but to be able to regard the world and ourselves and all beings with love, admiration and respect.”
