    Leopard Seal Frolic in Antarctica

CNN PRODUCER NOTE     Tour planner and guide friesendm visited Antarctica back in February 2010. While there he captured a video of a leopard seal frolicking around their boat. He says the other guide on the boat interacting with the seal has guided more than 80 trips into Antarctica and had a familiarity with seals. He says while watching the guide play with the seal his first thought was, "Is that really safe?" But the seal seemed playful. "The seal seemed to be playing with us and to be having fun as well," he said. He decided to share this video with CNN iReport because the Washington resident is planning on going back to Antarctica in 2015.
    - Jareen, CNN iReport producer

On our last day in Antarctica in 2010, we spent the morning around Pleneau Island. We visited Pleneau both times were in Antarctica so far, and it is one of my favorite Antarctica memories, not so much because of this video, but because of the amazing ice and sea panoramas.

On this particular day, our guide, Simon, stopped to play with this leopard seal on our way back to the ship. This species is one of the most efficient predators of the sea, and they can be both fierce and aggressive. But they can also be curious and playful, as we discovered, with delight!
