Houston Safes Dealer Says Customers Keeping More Cash in Their Safes

A Houston safes dealer said recently that many of his customers are buying safes to keep their cash in. With such low interest rates being paid by banks and wanting to have their cash safe and readily available, they figure it's better to move their cash home instead.

Fred Trotter, owner of Houston Safe and Lock in Houston, TX stated that safe sales are up and customers are telling him that they're going to put, among other things, cash, or more cash, in their safes.

Other things they mentioned they will be locking up are gold and silver coins and bullion, gold and silver bars, gold and silver jewelry, their Rolex watches, important papers and guns.

Trotter also said that sales of gun safes in his Houston store are up dramatically. "People want to keep their handguns, long guns and ammo in a safe place so they don't get stolen or get into the hands of their children", Trotter said.

We all know the heart-breaking stories of children who have gotten access to a loaded, unlocked firearm and then accidentally shot someone.

We have also all read the horrendous stories of unstable children and adults who shouldn't have had access to a firearm but did, resulting in school shootings.

"This is a sad, totally avoidable and unnecessary situation", said Trotter. He said he hears tragic stories from his customers almost every day.

He knows the pitfalls of keeping an unsecured gun in the house all too well. He also knows the potential dangers of keeping too much cash in a bank that pays an interest rate that's lower than the inflation rate.

"People want to have cash at home in case of an emergency or in case there is a major problem with the banks and they are ordered to close by the U.S. Government", said Trotter.

For these reasons and many others, Houston Safe and Lock has a 10,000 square foot showroom floor with over 300 safes in stock. They have gun safes, fire safes, important documents safes, coin and jewelry safes, depository safes, wall safes, safes that can be bolted down to a concrete slab, even car and truck safes.

For more information, to see over 300 safes in Houston or to ask a question about a safe, contact Fred Trotter by phone, email, or at his business.
