My first Adventure in America
I had a good adventure in 2013. In August, I decided to go to abroad by myself. Moreover, I had never left Japan before, so I felt very scared. However I thought that I had to challenge myself during the year.
I stayed at my father’s friends house in Atlanta, Georgia. She is Japanese and is married to American. They have lived in Atlanta for over 20 years. She is very kind, and permitted me to stay for 2 weeks. It was first time to board airplane by myself.
On day of departure, my father saw me off. And my adventure started. Then I received my first hardship. I lost my way to the boarding gate and felt nervous. But I finally could overcome it. I sat the my seat for 13 hours. It was so hard. When I arrived at the airport, I was confused because I couldn’t find my luggage. I am not good at explaining myself in English, so it was difficult to solve this problem. Also I couldn’t make myself understood in English at customs. “Why are you stay in Atlanta? To study?”, the customs officer said. I answered, “No. Only travel.” He was very scary in this situation! He didn’t smile, and spoke English very quickly. It was very difficult. But when I saw my father’s friend, I felt relieved.
She and I went to her home. This adventure was a little scary but so exciting because I think this is something that can’t really be experienced easily. This stay was so wonderful. However, I faced a lot of difficult situations. For example, I couldn’t pronounce English well so people couldn’t understand me. I thought I should study English more in Japan because of this adventure. Next time I go abroad, maybe I can travel well!
