CNN PRODUCER NOTE     Nature photographer Candice88 spent Tuesday catching and photographing snowflakes. It snowed about 10 inches in her hometown of Front Royal, Virginia. She used a creative prop to help catch the snowflakes: “For some reason the flakes stood out more when they landed on my hair so I utilized it as a backdrop,” she said. “The flakes melt fast when they hit any warmth so I had to move quickly while they were landing on my hair.” See more of her photos here.

Snow has arrived here in Virginia and I took the opportunity to take some snowflake photos. It's not easy capturing these delicate and detailed winter wonders, but it's worth it! I managed to photograph flakes that had fallen on my hair, clothing, our BBQ grill and windows. It was difficult getting perfectly clear pictures due to the cold and blizzard like conditions but I managed to get a few good ones. The beauty of a snowflake can also be seen with the naked eye if you look closely.
