Hillary Clinton Still Blamed for Benghazi When Ambassador Stevens Ignored His Own Warnings
Every CEO of large organizations are ultimately 'responsible' for what happens under their watch. We get all that.
But when Reps. Darrell Issa, R-Calif" and Jason Chaffetz, R-Utah, revealed that repeated requests for extra security in Libya were denied, despite numerous attacks against the consulate, they failed to explain in detail, "denied by whom".
"Their committee found the attacks were preventable, based on extensive intelligence reporting on the terrorist activity in Libya — to include prior threats and attacks against Western targets — and given the known security shortfalls at the U.S. Mission.”
Ambassador Chris Stevens was well aware of the problems in Benghazi because he had reported on the situation prior to having gone there on September 11, 2012.
"Stevens turned down additional military assistance. But he certainly sounded a number of warnings about the deteriorating situation, including ten terrorist organizations, outfits, that were right there in Benghazi. So I think that Christopher Stevens was very aware of the threat.
He did make the State Department aware of that. And the only time he really turned down help was when it was uniform military assistance that was offered."
Stevens also knew of the upcoming elections where the U.S. favored candidate for Benghazi wasn't the favorite of many in Benghazi.
He also knew of the CIA operations that were being conducted out of the Embassy in Benghazi.
“Based on information provided to the Committee by individuals with direct knowledge of events in Libya, the attack that claimed the ambassador’s life was the latest in a long line of attacks on Western diplomats and officials in Libya in the months leading up to September 11, 2012,” the committee wrote."
But Ambassador Stevens elected to go to Benghazi despite the warnings he had received about the deteriorating situation in Benghazi prior to their elections.
Piers Morgan, CNN, while interviewing Senator John McCain, stated that:
“When you actually get into the weeds of this pretty lengthy report, it also is very clear that one of the people who may be most to blame for not reacting to the threat and for increasing security despite being urged to repeatedly was the ambassador himself,” Morgan told McCain. “And obviously you don’t want to speak ill of a man who was killed in such appalling circumstances, but is it fair to also say that he as the ambassador should have done more to react to direct warnings that he was given on numerous occasions?”
Of course, McCain and the rest of the GOP prefer to ignore the facts their own committee found.
Ambassador Stevens could have waited in Tripoli until after the elections. Instead, he chose to go to Benghazi which endangered himself and the others in his security detail.
Chris Stevens had the best interests of the Libyan people in mind.
Many Libyan recognized his efforts were instrumental in bringing about their liberation from Gaddafi. It was a Libyan that tried to save him in the aftermath of the Embassy attack.
But not all groups embraced Stevens efforts.
Stevens was aware of this fact but chose to go to Benghazi on that fateful day anyways.
Secretary Hillary Clinton, out of respect for Ambassador Stevens, is not going to blame Chris Stevens for his own death.
What's despicable is that Republicans, investigating Benghazi, would exploit Clinton's respect and sympathy for Stevens, by blaming her for the Steven's death.
They know who's to blame for Chris Steven's death.
But they also know that Hillary Clinton and President Obama have too much class to blame Stevens for his own mistake that cost him and three other Americans their lives.
But then, the Republican leadership has no problem wallowing in their own sleazy politics- knowing that Clinton won't go where they'd love to lead her in defending her reputation on Benghazi.
The GOP has no shame so Liberals don't expect them to be respectful of the dead.
It's outrageous for the GOP to exploit a dead ambassador's reputation for their own political gain, but then we have seen them sink so low on the scale of human decency over all their other policies, this comes with no surprise to Americans that believe in dignity and truth.
