    Scott Tower Implosion

CNN PRODUCER NOTE     Mlostraglio stood one block away as teams imploded Scott Tower in downtown Greenville, South Carolina, on Jan. 19. It was the first implosion the engineer had witnessed. “Initially, my reaction was wow, this is much louder than I anticipated,” he said. “Watching a building of that size and height from such a close distance crash to the ground was quite exhilarating.”
    - zdan, CNN iReport producer

Scott Tower, located in downtown Greenville, SC, was imploded on Sunday, January, 19th. The 14 story building was built in the early 80's and has most recently been used as low income housing for seniors. Plans are now being made for a new building with street level retail and residential unit above for low income seniors. The rubble pile from the implosion will be used for a week long training exercise simulating a collapsed building involving first responders from three states.
