A Finnish Winter Lady in Red

CNN PRODUCER NOTE     For Finnish iReporter RitvaR, snow is just a part of life. Snow “covers everything, hides all ugly things and renews our life once a year in winter,” she said. Rundgren explored the snowy city of Oulu, Finland, on Jan. 23. “The winter actually came so late this year, that the River of Oulujoki is not frozen yet. We wait for the possibility to ski on the river.” Her second image was featured as CNN's Travel Photo of the Day for February 21, 2014.

Today my husband took me by car to Oulu, because I had some studies at the university of Oulu. My eager mind of the photography was looking for motives of the white city.

It was a sudden moment that I met a lady in red and I thought: That´s it, white, grey and red, like the Finnish architecture. There are a lot of white houses in the city, but among them as color spots some red houses and people.

I told my husband that we should count the straight birches by the road of Oulu university, where there are a lot of foreign students, too. Randomly there are about five hundred birches there.

As a minor point of interests there are salmon stairs in Oulu River, which is in one of those pictures.
