Arika Kane: Singer/Songwriter Telling Her Stories Through Her Music
Her inspiration for being a songwriter is her parents. “ They gave me inspiration and my father was a songwriter. The love of music was instilled in me”, Arika says. Arika Kane has always been a free person and has done things from the heart making her music that much more special. Through out her career she hasn’t had many regrets but now it’s unfolding. Her music is unique, with a sense of a soul to it.
The theme song for “ Hollywood Exes’s” was her song that she wrote for her first album but she states, “ It’s actually about my life and is my theme song up until that point. I saw the bigger picture in the song. I wanted it to reach avenues like TV and thankfully it did.” I had to ask Arika if she watched the Hollywood Exes because I know that some people just write the song and keep moving. She says, “ I do watch the show. I don’t keep up with it often but I do watch it.” As a fan of the show I feel that the theme song makes it. I mean it’s that first opening scene and song that you hear that captivates the show. “ I’m happy to have my music be a platform to inspire women”,Arika replies.
I always ask people if they are open or have considered pursuing acting. Arika says, “ I’m really focused on getting out there more as a mainstream artist. I don’t feel that the fans are really getting out there connecting. It’s really a crazy time right now for the industry with selling music because everything can be downloaded. If the opportunity came my way to act I would consider it.” Listening to the passion in her voice when she talks about making a statement and really standing out with her music was like a breath of fresh air. Arika never spoke about materialistic things or money. It shows m that the music is truly her passion. “ There are so many people that look for good music everyday”, Kane says.
Now working on her third album Arika is very excited and ready to get things done. I asked her how she thought about independent artists who are really coming up and being Grammy nominee’s etc.? She says, “ I think it’s a beautiful thing. I think it’s the new wave the new movement. Artists aren’t being told what to do. The major artists are more a product, which isn’t a bad thing but independent artists are the cutting edge of where everyone is going.” I had to agree with her because as an artist there are a lot of people who are making it on a independent level, now they may have to work harder but success is still the precedent. Arika says she’s grown so much through each album. She’s endured so many obstacles to climb her way through the industry but with the 3rd album she likes where things are headed. We both agreed on the struggle as artists and as women just trying to make it doing what we love.
Arika is going to be doing a duet with Brian McKnight that will be available March 18th and her album will be available May 1st and she will be going on tour as well. Now, when I spoke Brian McKnight I couldn’t help but to get excited. I’m such a fan of his. “ People will be surprised with this song that we do. Brian is such a humble person and I’ve been trying to collaborate on my last two albums. When I reached out to Brian, he knew my music and respected me enough to start writing the song with me. He said, it’s an honor to work with me. It was a fresh of breath air to hear that”, Arika says. On her downtime Arika spends time with her two best friends and they have a great time. “ It’s important for me to get with my friends and just have a good time,”Arika says. I had a great conversation and enjoyed my interview with Arika Kane. I’m such a fan and I look forward to hearing more good music from her for years to come.
“I go big or I go home.” Arika
