Twilight at Drought Stricken Mono Lake

CNN PRODUCER NOTE     Cat Connor took this photo on January 22 to show the drought conditions in Mono Lake, California. She says the water levels at the lake are very low compared to three years ago. 'Normally the surrounding mountains would be covered in snow, right now they are bare,' she said. She says these past snowless winters has led to problems in the area, local tourism jobs are shutting down, creeks and rivers are drying up, and the landscape is changing. 'We are in a very bad situation, people need to get serious about water conservation,' she said.
    - Jareen, CNN iReport producer

Winter? More like lack of winter. As you can see from this image of Mono Lake, Callifornia's drought is taking it's toll on lakes all over the state. After 3 years of no snow the Eastern Sierra Nevada is being hit especially hard as it is the water source for the city of Los Angeles. With only 20% of normal snow pack things are looking pretty scary out west, while the east is being pounded by snow.
