    Wave Bows in San Diego

CNN PRODUCER NOTE     jimginsd photographed the beautiful waves in San Diego, California, on January 25. The area gets a Santa Ana wind that comes from the east, blowing to the west. 'The wind blows off the lip of the wave forcing it backwards, as that happens the sun catches the water droplets and creates a prism, much like a traditional rainbow,' he explained.

    - Jareen, CNN iReport producer

I started calling the multi colored rainbows that the surf and sun creates Wave Bows several years ago. Nobody really had a name for them and I thought the name fit. When the sun hits the fine spray on top of the wave it creates a prism effect much like a rainbow. San Diego has had beautiful weather with sunny days and large surf which makes for the beautiful colorful displays....These shots were taken 1/25/2014
