I went to see the Book of Mormon yesterday in Cincinnati. I had heard some people loved it and others hated it. Well, being a Christian, I knew going in the writers were going to use humor in the play and the ticket said explicit language. Anyway, you will first notice the playbill does not list the acts or songs. That would have given away the plot and I think the writers wanted shock value. The play itself was entertaining as long as you did not consider the language offensive or the blasphemy of Jesus in some cases. The depiction of the Mormons and the gold plates in New York by Joseph Smith was pretty accurate. They even mention Brigham Young moving the Mormons to Salt Lake City. I don't want to give too much away, but the play has great songs and will keep you intrigued. In other words, I laughed and did not take the comments to heart regarding my own Christian faith.
