Willow Buds in January
During January, 30 miles above the Arctic Circle, temperatures of minus 20 to minus 30 d. Fah are the norm. However, in the winter of 2014, the thermometers have been reading in the upper 30s, enough to prompt willows to start budding. They usally start budding in April or May. Instead of the usual snow blizzards, there is rain. It has been colder in the lower 48 states and warmer in Alaska.
