Wintry weather 2014
Stranded at Milton High School in Atlanta
From @marcyheinz on Instagram.
Photo 1: I sat in this spot in Alpharetta, GA for over an hour. This was thee hours into a 15-mile commute. People were not kind in the #gridlock
Photo 2: With the sun setting the road conditions rapidly deteriorated. Hopeful people remained on the #gridlocked roads. My new friend and I made the choice to turn around and seek shelter at #MiltonHighSchool. My SUV began sliding backwards down a hill. An unnamed #Fulton county bus driver literally came to my rescue. He forces tree branches under my suv's wheels for traction and two other men pushed and talked me through moments of #panic.
Photo 3: I slept here last night. Parents walked from nearby neighborhoods to provide sleeping bags for the children, school staff and my motley crew of stranded motorists. It wasn't too bad. I had a bag of assorted phone & device chargers which everyone was thrilled to use in order to keep in contact with loved ones.
Photo 4: First light. We are all anxious to get home. I don't know when I will be able to leave and with a weather forecast in the 20's I'm not too hopeful. Myself and the woman I helped plus another woman from my area are considering the most traveled, least hilly routes #home. The way is rural and includes state roads that local news isn't covering. It is scary. Most aren't dressed to be stranded in snow and we are talking about prudent driving/travel survival plans. If we stay put, we may spend a second night in the school... but it is better than the dire reports of stranded drivers who are hungry, cold and out of gas.
