    Poachers Sentenced to 7 Years

Nairobi, Tuesday. A Kenyan today returned a record sentence on a Chinese ivory smuggler, Tang Yong Jian, 40. He was the first person convicted under new laws designed to stem poaching. Mr Tang was ordered to pay 20 million shillings, about 170,500 euros, 233,000 dollars, or go to jail for seven years. He was arrested last week carrying an ivory tusk weighing 3.4 kg. in a suitcase while in transit from Mozambique to China via Nairobi.
