2014 Progressive Insurance Minneapolis Boat Show opens to big crowds

After a heavy storm system that dumped over six inches of snow in some parts of the Twin Cities metro area, the sun came out as doors opened for the 2014 Progressive Insurance Minneapolis Boat Show at 2PM on Thursday January 30. The sun was not the only sign of a rising tide in the boating industry, as crowds eager to see the newest boats, gadgets and accessories filled the halls of the Minneapolis Convention Center.

Despite sub-zero temperatures and blowing snow, 210 vendors moved their boats, watercraft and other merchandise into the Convention Center on Tuesday and Wednesday. From the new Sea Doo Sparks to Boating Magazine’s 2013 Boat of the Year, the Cruisers Sport Series 328, visitors will experience a wide variety of new boats, watercraft and accessories over the course of the show, which runs until Sunday, February 2 at 5PM.

A highlight of opening day was the world premiere of the MasterCraft Boat Company’s MasterCraft NXT. The NXT, an all-new 20-foot MasterCraft hull, is unique in its design for MasterCraft and will have all new features including a new tower and colors that no other MasterCraft series will offer. The NXT is MasterCraft’s first entry-level boat series and will be available in the summer of 2014.

Show highlights include the show’s first craft beer tasting event, Anchors & Ales, from 5PM- 9PM on Friday, January 31.
