My Journey Down NFL Super Bowl Boulevard XLVIII - Part 6 of 6
View my photography portfolio at ByHandPix.com.
You can see my entire set of photos from NFL Super Bowl 48 (XLVIII) Boulevard on my photo blog gallery Here.
I had the opportunity to visit New York City’s Times Square for the NFL’s Super Bowl 48 (XLVIII) Boulevard, an amazing event for fans of professional football, sports fans in general, and anyone just looking to have a great time. There are events for both adults and children, most of which are completely free. NFL players have been signing autographs since the event began on Wednesday, January 29th, and will continue to sign through today. I’m on line for Cleveland Browns football great Jim Brown, who went on star in two of my favorite cult classic movies for the 1970s - Take A Hard Ride and Three the Hard Way - both of which he co-starred with martial artists, actors and fellow athletes Jim Kelly and Fred Williamson.
When I visited Times Square for the NFL’s Super Bowl 48 (XLVIII) Boulevard on Thursday, I saw Steve Young from the NFL's Tampa Bay Buccaneers & San Francisco 49ers, as well as the Los Angeles Express of the United States Football League, Ray Anthony Lewis Jr. from the Baltimore Ravens, and Drew Brees from the New Orleans Saints. They were all being interviewed for ESPN Television, which had a remote broadcast booth set up on 34th Street, Herald Square, just outside of Macy’s flagship store. Macy’s has also been infected with NFL team spirit, featuring window displays with NFL team football jerseys and other NFL apparel and gear.
For four exciting days, Super Bowl Boulevard by GMC is the biggest show on New York City’s Time Square, Broadway and 34th Street Herald Square. The event spans thirteen blocks along the famous streets and is the epicenter for NFL fans during Super Bowl 48 (XLVIII) celebrating everything football. Fans from around the world, along with residents of the Tri-State area have been stopping by to engage with the NFL, the New York/New Jersey Host Committee and the League's broadcasting partners and sponsors, including ESPN, GMC, Microsoft Xbox and many more.
Super Bowl Boulevard registration is not mandatory but is recommended for an enhanced experience. Register on-site to receive a badge for Super Bowl Boulevard by GMC. Make sure you register in order to take part in such activities as: Take a photo with the Vince Lombardi Trophy; Receive free autographs from NFL players; Kick a field goal through NFL uprights; Visit the broadcast sets of NFL Network, ESPN and FOX; Ride the 60 foot toboggan (There is a $5 fee for this ride, which is donated to MillionTreesNYC); and Visit NFL sponsor displays and receive free giveaways.
Throughout the four day NFL Super Bowl 48 (XLVIII) Boulevard, there will be autograph appearances by: Derrick Brooks (Alumni), Tampa Bay Buccaneers; DeSean Jackson, Philadelphia Eagles; Eric Berry, Kansas City Chiefs; Matt Forte, Chicago Bears; Josh Gordon, Cleveland Browns; Matt Forte, Chicago Bears; DeMarcus Ware, Dallas Cowboys; Eddie Lacy, Green Bay Packers; Donte Whitner, San Francisco 49ers;30-Jan Thurs. 4PM - 5PM Antonio Cromartie, New York Jets; Pierre Garcon, Washington Redskins; Luke Kuechly, Carolina Panthers; Reggie Wayne, Indianapolis Colts; Nick Foles, Philadelphia Eagles; Marshall Faulk (Alumni), St Louis Rams; Maurice Jones-
Drew, Jacksonville Jaguars; Jim Brown (Alumni), Cleveland Browns; Cam Newton, Carolina Panthers; Mike Tirico, ESPN; and Greg Hardy, Carolina Panthers.
Other activities at NFL Super Bowl 48 (XLVIII) Boulevard include: Super Bowl Virtual Theater in front of Macy's in Herald Square; NFL Shop at Macy's in Herald Square; NFL Rush Zone and NFL Play 60, between 34th & 35th streets; Concerts by The Bacon Brothers, Michael Cavenaugh, Café Wha? Band and Blondie; The Toboggan Run; NFL Super Bowl 48 (XLVIII) Roman Numerals; and the Vince Lombardi Trophy display, which is between 43rd & 44th streets.
