Superbowl Mania Takes over Midtown at "Superbowl Avenue" In Times Square

I started noticing a slew of yellow jacketed people meandering around Midtown Manhattan this week, so I decided to stop and ask one of these volunteers exactly what they were up to. Diane F. Stopped a moment to share some photos and explain what was going on. Here is what Diane had to say:

My Thursday volunteer assignment was at Newark Airport, greeting arriving visitors. We gave them commemorative hand warmers and maps of Super Bowl Boulevard and the NY/NJ transit system to aid them this weekend. The response was warm and genuine. Even when there were groups from Seattle and Denver at nearby luggage carousels the general feeling was relaxed and in anticipation of fun.

Friday I got to man the Super Bowl Concierge table at an area hotel. Again, many were appreciative of someone there to answer questions and especially to direct them towards the action. Had a great conversation with 2 of the officials for the game as well!

I've always enjoyed being a tour guide of sorts for out of town friends, and there was an opportunity to help and connect with visiting fans. Being a volunteer for the Super Bowll Host Committee was a very rewarding experience!

Super Bowl Boulevard has something for everyone! There are great photo ops available; have a photo taken of you making a diving catch on a football field, with the M&Ms characters, in front of the Roman Numerals, in the uniform of your favorite Bronco or Seahawk, or have your picture taken with the famed Vince Lombardi trophy ( the attached photo is taken through the outer display window, I didn't have the 2+ hours to wait in line!). By the way, each of these Super Bowl Championship trophies has been made at Tiffany's in New Jersey for decades!

You can grab some free pizza, ride a 60 foot mega-toboggan, watch many sports outlets all broadcasting from somewhere on or near Times Square.

    1. Social media analysis display- so much of Super Bowl Boulevard is interactive on a tech level. This compares online fan votes of players performances, and is changing constantly.

    2. The multi lane toboggan, stretching high into Times Square

    3. The autograph and performance stage (yes, those ARE heat lamps!)

    4. The Roman Numerals

    5. The Vince Lombardi trophy

Thank you Diane for stopping to share your photos and tell us how these volunteers are helping to manage the madness on this Superbowl Eve!
