Grenada’s main opposition party, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) elects a new leader

V Nazim Burke, former minister of finance under the last NDC administration was elected the fourth political leader of the party at its annual convention on Sunday 2nd February at the Westerhall Secondary School in the rural parish of St David’s.

Mr. Burke’s election to the leadership of the Congress marks a critical point in the party’s history as the organization tries to reinvent itself after the humiliating loss in the last general election just over a year ago.

Mr. Burke leads an impressive team of persons which includes youthful and highly motivated educator Joseph Andall as his deputy, Sen. Dr George Vincent is the new chairman; former minister of education Mrs.Franka Bernadine is the new Public relation officer. Well known calypsonian Elwyn “Black Wizard” Mc Quilkin was elected as a floor member. The women’s and Youth arm will elect their representatives to the National Executive at their respective general meetings to be held in the not too distant future.

Much needed reforms are expected in the party as Burke seems ready for the task when he said to supporters “I embrace the challenge with boundless energy”
