Friends or lovers? Coney Island cats need help..

On this very cold, icy snow wrought day I can't help but think of the cats that live in colonies or the misplaced ones on Coney Island. I live in Nassau county on LI but go in often on weekends and some of these cats have gotten to me.
Much has been written about them and I wish I could do more to help but right now, today I can post this. You might want to see my reports, "Coney Island cat show", and "Coney Island cat show continued."
The reality here is it is getting harder for these veteran colony boardwalk cats and newer misplaced cats to survive. Groups are taking care of them but I see changes. Bldgs are being torn down that housed people and their cats, space, the community garden has been bulldozed. #9 which grew produce, and helped out the cats with shelter. (Remember cats do help with the rodent population) Last week I saw some strays wandering around in it and I know one kitten if not already adopted is up for it, a Tortie that was rescued from the demolished garden. Please google in- Amusing the Zillions-"help save Coney Island cat, "Snow Coney." This is a good source of info about the real facts on these animals that need help. You might also want to see, "Coney Island cat crisis, Josie and the neighborhood cats." video.
