Rice Pledging for Farmers
Throughout the past 3 harvesting years, Pheu Thai Government has implemented 5 rounds of the rice pledging scheme. Approximately 3.26 million households of farmers participated in and directly benefited from the program. Millions others enjoyed the higher price of rice. Rice volume under the scheme is approximately 60% of national rice products. Payment directly transferred from BAAC to the farmers has been made for over 700,000 million Baht in total.
This is the pride of Pheu Thai Party in mobilizing a worthwhile policy, the pride in generating favorable income for farmers, erasing their pain, and enhancing their capacity in debt payment and savings, making the smile of theirs the smile for our future.
Even though the program has often been under scrutiny and attack by way of legal and political means, Pheu Thai Party stays true to its commitment to the farmers, and is set to sail through all obstacles to achieve the ultimate goal of the scheme together with fellow farmers just like we have been throughout the past 3 years.
Recent limitation of the rice pledging schemes is a consequence of the parliament dissolution. Despite the fact that the Government had planned it out, it must follow legal procedures, as stipulated in the Constitution, to seek loans for the scheme’s overdue payment. To add to the hardship, there have been attempts to spread a misconception that financial institutions would end up with massive damages if agree to grant loan to the Government’s rice pledging scheme, when, in fact, it would be a great benefit to such institutions both in business point of view, as to being the Government’s creditor, and social point of view, as to being able to help out the farmers. Therefore, Pheu Thai Government sincerely hopes that financial institutions are sympathetic to the farmers who are now in deep trouble.
Pheu Thai Party is ready to confront with political obstacles in all aspects, particularly political attempts to overthrow the Party with the farmers’ benefits at stake. For farmers’ lives, and the dream we have built together, Pheu Thai Government will make our utmost effort in paying back the farmers the soonest possible. This is our commitment.
Pheu Thai Party is confident that there shall be no victory over the suffering of farmers, and hopes fellow farmers would join us, just as we have been throughout the past 3 years, in overcoming all sorts of obstacles and obstructions.
