Future Olympian want-to-be! 2 year old skier hitting jumps in the kids' terrain park in Telluride

CNN PRODUCER NOTE     TellurideMom told me, 'Taj asks to ski every day, though he usually only goes 2 or 3 times per week. He is able to ski almost all beginner terrain and has recently begun to attempt some intermediate ski trails, too. He is able to ski terrain on 4 different lifts here in Telluride and is able to turn in both directions, though he still has to be on his “reins” on anything steep since he has absolutely no fear and no interest in slowing down or stopping. He has an extremely long attention span when it comes to skiing and will literally ski for hours, until his Dad drags him away from the ski area to come home and take a nap...we usually have to bribe him to come home with a yummy snack. '

My husband and I have lived in Telluride for 16 years. We began taking our son up on the hill when he was 15 months old, as it was a way to get out of the house and have something productive to do. Each time we took him on the magic carpet he got better, much to our surprise. More importantly, he loved it. The beginning of this ski season marked his second year, and within the first day he was pointing away from the magic carpet and towards the "real" bunny hill, so my husband decided to give it a try. He loved it and skied for nearly 3 hours that day. Ever since then he has asked to go skiing every single morning. Recently, he began following an older kid into the kids' terrain park and he immediately wanted to go over the jumps and small rails. Of course, his Dad let him...and once again, Taj somehow improved with every trip through the terrain park. He is able to turn in both directions and hit the small jumps and rails, but he has no interest in learning how to stop or slow down quite yet, so he still has to be on a harness when he's out cruising any of the steep sections of the mountain. Taj is now able to ski most green and some blue (beginner and some easy intermediate) runs, which allows him to enjoy the terrain that is offered from four different lifts in Telluride. He is obsessed with Gus Kenworthy, also a Telluride native who will be competing in the Olympics in Sochi. He's only 2 years and 4 months old, but Taj wants to follow in Gus' footsteps and as long as he's having fun and being safe we will support his dream!
