Port Fire in Savannah on sugar anniversary

CNN PRODUCER NOTE     KayvonG, 28, first saw the smoke from the burning Port Authority warehouse in Savannah, Georgia, from the backyard of his home. "The black smoke started to look like a tornado," he said, "and now it smells like burnt tires everywhere."

Several friends asked him what was going on after he sent them several pictures of the smoke with his iPhone. "I hated telling them that I didn't know," he said, "so I decided to get in my car and drive out to see what was happening." On the Talmadge Memorial Bridge, he found that he wasn't the only person interested in getting live footage of the fire. "Police on the bridge were taking pictures with their phones, and people were slamming on their brakes so they could stop to take a photo," he said.

Huge fire, clouds of smoke, black ominous sky on anniversary of tragic sugar refinery explosion that claimed 14 lives. This time around on the cursed day, it is a port or factory fire right off the savannah river.
