    Syed in New York

CNN PRODUCER NOTE     alexpreditor first met Syed, a humanitarian volunteer from Pakistan, through the social media site Twitter. He came to the United States on January 26 in order to attend the Annual Youth Assembly at the United Nations which happens in February. She says one of the highlights of interviewing Syed was having the opportunity to visit the United Nations. 'I had never been even though I live in New York. And yet this was the reason hundreds of youth activists traveled thousands of miles,' she said. While she was filming this interview, which is comprised of footage that Syed took while traveling to the United States, she also learned a lot about the diversity in Pakistan. 'Syed lives in a mountainous area, a "beautiful paradise" as he describes it,"' she said. 'I think most people in the U.S. associate Pakistan with war and violence, when in reality, Pakistan is just as diverse as America.' She also explains that Syed, who is 25, became a humanitarian after the 2005 Kashmir earthquake.
    - Jareen, CNN iReport producer

Syed is a humanitarian volunteer and social activist from Kashmir, Pakistan who traveled to the U.S. for the the first time to attend the Annual Youth Assembly at the United Nations this week.

Syed found me on Twitter (@alexpreditor) while looking for #nyc related posts. He we was very excited to do a video about his 34 hour journey here as well as his trip once he landed.

Syed shot on his iPhone 5 throughout Islamabad, Abu Dhabi and Manchester. I shot on a Panasonic HVX200 once he arrived in New York City.

Syed was inspired to become a humanitarian activist after the 2005 Kashmir earthquake.

It was amazing to meet someone the same age with the same interests from halfway around the world who I had first connected with on social media.
