    "It is absolutely a beautiful day out there right now."


    CNN PRODUCER NOTE     nishanthg told me, 'The conditions this morning were not fit for children to be outside. It was hard to keep the eyes open because of the ice crystals (unlike the usual fluffy snow) and the wind. The commute home will be a nightmare if the subways can't run because of power problems. The 2 train has been experiencing weather related delays for the past two days.'

    On the morning of February 13th, 2014, New Yorkers woke up to yet another snow storm. These photos show kids and their parents making the difficult morning commute to the schools near 86th street in Manhattan.

    Schools chancellor Carmen Farina defended the decision to keep the New York City Public schools open by saying “it’s a beautiful day out there,” as the Nor’easter was making its presence felt outside...
