Winter weather 2014
Beautiful but exhausting, and dangerous too!
First off, I have to say that I love snow! I love the way it makes NYC look like a winter wonderland. On the more practical side, it does create some difficulties. My husband has plowed and shoveled out our driveway, sidewalk and cars (three of them) five times already with another one due today. It can be exhausting, especially because he works nights and then comes home and has to plow and shovel on top of that. Sometimes before he goes to sleep and then again after he wakes up, depending on the storm. As for me, well, I've made it into work for every storm only to be told we could go home or at least leave early. I hate getting all the way there and THEN be told to leave. Why not just let the staff stay home? The novelty has worn off. Kids don't want to go to school but our Mayor insists on keeping schools open. I am tired of almost slipping and falling on all the snow covered ice out there too. I fell on a small section of ice a few years back and got a concussion. I was home, in bed and unable to move my head for a week. I don't want that to happen again. People tend to shrug off the dangers, but I've had friends who lost family members just from a simple slip on the ice. While we can't all just shut everything down and stay home each time it snows, it good to use common sense. If you think it's unsafe, then stay home and don't worry about what the city says. That being said, it did provide me with many opportunities for some beautiful photos. I am hoping I don't get many more of these opportunities this year. I've had my fill!
