    FILIPINO CHURCH BROKEN SINGAPORE & CANADA's GUINNESS RECORDS

     

    CNN PRODUCER NOTE     Jojo Diones participated in Iglesia Ni Cristo's, an indigenous church that originated in the Philippines, charity walk to raise money for victims of Typhoon Haiyan. With 519,521 participants in 29 countries, the church broke the Guinness world record for the largest charity walk done in 24 hours from various locations. "Iglesia Ni Cristo membership comprises 114 nationalities. It maintains 5,545 congregations and missions grouped into 114 ecclesiastical districts in the Philippines and 102 other countries and territories in the six inhabited continents of the world," he said. The church also broke the Guinness world record for the largest walk organized in a single venue, with 17,509 participants from the congregation in Kuwait alone.

    A Filipino Christian Church known as the Iglesia Ni Cristo or INC, broken and smashing Singapore & Canada's World Guinness Records for organizing the largest charity walk in single & multiple sites within 24 hrs in an effort to raise funds for the victim and survivors of last year’s super Typhoon Haiyan, locally known as Yolanda,

     

    According to Guinness official adjudicator Kirsty Bennet, 175,509 members of the Iglesia ni Cristo or INC took part in Saturday’s record-setting walk along a scenic Roxas Boulevard in Manila. The previous record was set in Singapore in 2000 when 77,500 people walked to promote healthy living. and in Canada where 231,635 people took part in a charity walk at various sites in 2007.

     

    Iglesia ni Cristo also held their charity walk last Saturday in 28 other countries with 135 sites around the world reaching 519,221 number of participants worldwide.

     

    In a press conference held in Manila, Mr. Edwin Zabala, the INC event spokesperson said  “We’re concerned that donor fatigue may set in. “If we abandon them now, many can’t still stand back fully on their own.”

     

    Mr. Zabala, distinctly laid the detais of the INC organized walk. The event is to raise funds to be used in constructing homes and providing livelihoods to thousands of homeless Typhoon Haiyan survivors and  still millions of them living in tents and makeshift homes more than three months after the worst disaster of the century.

     

    Meanwhile in Kuwait, thousand of Filipino overseas workers or OFW, and some of them with their families living abroad  also participates in this largest charity walk in the world, sponsored by the INC in the Philippines.
