Thai military declares coup
Casualty in Bangkok: 5 deaths, 70 wounded
In Bangkok, the Erawan Emergency Medical Centre reported one more perished bringing the total of death to 5 people while 70 have been wounded during the retaking of the Phan Fah Leelas Bridge on Tuesday.
The Thai Royal Police met with violent resistance from the so-called People's Democratic Reform Committee (PDRC), which is a quasi-rightwing entity supported by neo-fascists, royalists, retired army officers and members of the oldest opposition party, the Democrats. The Democrat Party holds some influence among the middle class in their city stronghold.
PDRC chief, Mr. Suthep Thaugsuban, is still calling for a removal of democracy and intends to install an unelected council of "good men" and has also failed to elaborate on their supposedly "reform" plans. The post February 2 election has been marked by repeated acts of intimidation and violence as political chaos threatens to sweep the country.
