Kyiv - a sea of flowers and candles

CNN PRODUCER NOTE     MaiaKiev says a sea of flowers and candles poured into Kiev's main square on February 22 as people came together to mourn those who lost their lives during the Ukrainian protesting. 'You still can see blood on the ground where they were shot. Every place where protesters were killed became an improvised memorial,' she said. She says the mood is somber. 'We expected that celebration of victory that we had been fighting for. But instead, our hearts are heavy with grief for those who lost their lives and for their families. There are a lot of tears.'

Today the streets of Kyiv were more crowded than ever as it seemed the whole city came to mourn the heroes, to commit to memory their heroic sacrifice and to make a promise to build Ukraine free of corruption.

People brought flowers to every place where lives had been lost. Streets washed by blood earlier this week are now covered with flowers. The whole downtown became a big memorial in honor of the heroes of Maidan.
