    Crashed Ice 2014 St Paul

CNN PRODUCER NOTE     Colombian freelance photojournalist giolopez documented the third annual Crashed Ice event in St. Paul, Minnesota. The event, he said, "involves downhill skating in an urban environment on a track [that] includes steep turns and high vertical drops." It began with 64 contestants competing to make it to the final round where only four athletes remained. "The athletes descend in a 600-meter ice track in groups of four at 70 kilometers per hour. In these photos, you can see 'adrenaline junkies' pushing, sliding and sprinting in a narrow track full of ice with no fear," he said.
