    Your child's travel firsts

    Anthony's first adventure, in paradise.

To take advantage of the free airfare for under age 2, my wife and I took Anthony for his first trip via airplane to Hawaii when he was 15 months old. This was his first extended trip away from home so we were not entirely certain how it was going to end up. Anthony enjoyed this trip like a veteran traveler. He repeated this seasoned traveler persona on a trip a month later to Chicago over Christmas. We took him everywhere on Oahu, including Diamond Head, Hanauma Bay, a number of beaches, and Pearl Harbor among many others. He thoroughly enjoyed every moment of it. When we landed back in LA at the end of this journey, he stood up in his seat on the plane and said goodbye to every passenger who went past him. If there was one regret, it was that we wished we would've brushed aside the concerns of everybody else about taking him on travels at too young an age. The benefits of exposing him to more of the world at an earlier age, coupled with the reduced or free airfare domestically, would have made those trips a win-win every time.
