    Port Canaveral Exploration Tower

A wide array of attractions and activities have drawn tourists and locals alike to Florida's Space Coast for many years: NASA, Kennedy Space Center, rocket launches, cruises, beautiful beaches, surfing, fishing, camping, wildlife, antique stores, art galleries, restaurants, and nightlife….just to name a few. While recently enjoying some of the area's fascinating features, I decided to explore a stunning new addition: the iconic Port Canaveral Welcome Center/Exploration Tower. And wow, what a treat I was in for!

At a cost of $23 million, this impressive 22,000-square-foot, state-of-the-art facility opened November 4, 2013. Its seven stories include hands-on exhibits and interactive displays pertaining to local topography and wildlife, environmental concerns, and the history of space exploration. Intended to educate and raise awareness regarding the area's rich history and potential, its sleek design, modern artwork, and futuristic restrooms (don't miss!) add to the ambience. Be sure to take in the view from the outdoor rooftop observation deck and catch the big screen, short film based on local history about natives, Spanish explorers, sea battles, and more. You can also buy cruise tickets, grab a snack, and pick up a memento at the gift shop. What a wonderful way to get acquainted (or re-acquainted) with Florida's Space Coast and all it has to offer!

Admission is just $6.50 (adults) and $3.75 (children 3-10), with discounts for Brevard County residents, seniors, and military personnel.

The Exploration Tower is located off Astronaut Blvd at 670 Dave Nisbet Drive, Cape Canaveral, Florida 32920. The operating hours are currently 9am until 6pm every day.
