HGTV's All-New Series 'Crowded House' Offers Laughter and Insight
HGTV's all new half-hour series Crowded House premiered last night to rave reviews. With its blend of comic drama, witty banter and insightful opinions, the show veers just far enough away from the traditional HGTV home-buying format to be fresh while still ensuring the consistency viewers require.
The show follows home buyers as they search with their realtor for the perfect new home. In the first few minutes, the buyers learn that they will actually be touring the three properties with 20 outspoken and opinionated strangers who see it as their ultimate duty to study every nook and cranny of each property and bring to the buyer's attention every possible pleasure or pitfall in a home. It goes without saying that Crowded House buyers are nothing if not extensively informed.
On last night's premiere episode, which airs again Sunday at 5pm e/p, newly engaged first-time homebuyers Jason and Samantha ultimately find the oft-overwhelming gallery of 20 absolute strangers a helpful instrument in choosing their first home. The gallery members themselves boast an immediate intimacy that allows for honest opinions to flow freely and openly from the soapbox they are afforded on the show. Even the realtor, Denise Cameron, admits to finding some value in their (sometimes off-the-wall) insights.
Many of the funniest moments come when gallery members make odd suggestions that seem like more trouble than they are worth, or when the search for potential downfalls in a home reaches strange, unlikely proportions. Disagreeing gallery members may mirror some opinionated viewers with their visible shock and disdain at these absurd suggestions, but the overall tone of the show is one of camaraderie and genuine concern for the buyer's eventual happiness. This paired with the comedic elements peppered throughout makes Crowded House a show worth watching again and again.
Tune in to HGTV Sunday, March 2, at 5pm EST for more Crowded House.
