The St. Louis Minority Business Council and St. Louis Regional Chamber Form Strategic Alliance to Grow Economic Development in the Region and Increase Minority Inclusion

ST. LOUIS, Mo. February 28, 2014 – The St. Louis Minority Business Council (SLMBC) and the St. Louis Regional Chamber today formally announced the formation of a new strategic alliance between the St. Louis-based organizations. The new alliance is designed to grow economic development, business relationships and minority business enterprise (MBE) inclusion. The goal of the partnership is to identify new opportunities that may not have existed for either organization independently.

“By joining forces, we create new streams of opportunities for members of both organizations, opportunities that may not have been possible in the past without this partnership,” said James Webb, President and CEO of St. Louis Minority Business Council. “We want to grow companies and create jobs in all sectors that make our region stronger and better equipped to compete against other cities across the country.”

As part of the alliance, the St. Louis Minority Business Council and St. Louis Regional Chamber will focus on education, development and advocacy to enhance their shared goal for development and inclusion. The alliance will launch a new business accelerator service designed to support and grow entrepreneurs and minority businesses through executive training, contracting assistance and increased access to financial support.

“Minority inclusion is a top priority for the Chamber, and this new commitment gives us the ability to reach new audiences and enhance the development of new and existing businesses,” said Joe Reagan, President and CEO of the St. Louis Regional Chamber. “Small and minority businesses are two of the fastest growing segments in the region, and this new agreement will help everyone achieve greater success.”

For members of the St. Louis Minority Business Council, they will now have access to the Regional Chamber companies to better fulfill supplier diversity requirements and grow inclusion. For the Regional Chamber and its members, the Council provides local certifications and programs along with global access to the Minority Business Development Agency, which is located within the SLMBC offices.

“This new alliance makes both organizations and their memberships stronger,” said Mayor Francis Slay. “By allowing each organization to tap into resources from the other they’ve created a way to instantly expand business across St. Louis and around the region. There will be increased networking opportunities and access to a pipeline of resources that wasn’t there in the past. This is a win-win partnership for everyone involved with the Council and the Chamber.”

About The St. Louis Minority Business Council
During the SLMBC’s 40-year history, the organization has remained at the heart of the St. Louis region’s economic growth. What started as a focus on partnering minority-owned businesses with area corporations has evolved into a long-term, strategic approach – one in which SLMBC provides ongoing growth opportunities, financial support, and training and education for its corporate members and Minority Business Enterprises (MBEs). Through these and other efforts, SLMBC’s partnerships with corporations and MBEs have become an integral part of the region’s economic stability and growth.
