What makes a city "The Top US City"?

Being awarded the title of Top US City is a pretty impressive accolade. How is a City singled out as being "The Best" when there are a total of 19355 (Wikipedia) in the 50 States. I am sure there are many residents who would claim their's to be the best. However there must be something about Charleston, South Carolina as it has now won the title of being Number One "Top 10 US Cities" by the readers of Condé Nast Traveler for three years consecutively.

So what is it that make Charleston so appealing to their readers? What it appears is special is the "sand, sun, history, good food, and friendly people," and they consider Charleston to be a "gracious and beautiful" city. The beaches are close, the architecture impressive but it's the "insanely nice" locals that get much mention.

Fancy a long weekend exploring the sights and sounds of Charleston? A visit to voyagebookers reveals a wealth of accommodation with a good selection in the much visited Historic District and many receiving the highest of guest ratings. Take a look at their Charleston YouTube Video - I am sure it will whet your appetite
