*North Cotabato produced organic rice and sugar draws huge demand in Europe, hopes to earn more jobs
North Cotabato province, headed by the governor itself, Emmylou Mendoza together with other province officials in agriculture sector, led the Philippine delegate in the worlds most distinguished and biggest organic food and agriculture trade show, Biofach in Nuremberg,Germany.
“Our exhibit stands out among other products and we have been successful besause the showcase has gained interest from other countries who signified for more orders, and this means additional jobs”, she said.
Among the countries which asked for coco sugar imports and now booked for shipping are Italy, Spain, Austria and Scandinavian countries while New Zealand , Australia, United Kingdom, Netherlands and Germany has potential buyers and investors.
Some manufacturers from this countries are thinking of using the coco sugar in chocolate making and other sweets factory.
Organic rice has confirmed buyers also from Italy, Hongkong and Africa and has potential buyers from New York, Netherlands, Australia, Moscow, Bulgaria and Israel.
“Around Europe, people are so concerned about healthy foods and free from synthetic additives and so we have a better edge in our local product”, said Engr. Eliseo Mangliwan, the provincial agriculture head.
Previosly the coco sugar plant has a regular export of 8 tons per order per month but after the showcase it could maximize its full production limit of 30 tons due to increasing demand.
While the organic rice could reach up to 40 tons of export per batch, now a luring 200 tons or more is expected to be sold to another countries.
The governor stressed, this could give an option to local farmers to endure to a better earning and promising organic products, the province has vast areas for rice plantations and coconut farms.
“ Biofach is a business to business category type of investment, from producer direct to wholesaler, the good thing in the business,there is an opportunity of assistance in provision of right equipment and training to meet their standard”, Mendoza added.
It is the second time the province joined the exhibit but in the previous headed by the Department of Agriculture, the province was not recognized and so the provincial government has decided to take charge of the promotion and finance with their local fund.
The organic rice is produced by Bios Dynamis, a brand developed by Don Bosco Foundation and has production areas in Makilala and Mlang while the coco sugar product is produced by Tree Life Coco Sugar produced by organic farming advocate Jerry Taray of Carmen town.
These two products is assisted by the European Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the Philippines.
It passes the strict quality certifying and food safety body accredited by the European Union to meet standards in joining the Biofach exhibit.
Tree of life coco sugar and Biodynamis organic sugar were the only products coming from the Philippines during the exhibit last month.
