This iReport is part of an assignment:
Putin’s Suicide Mission in Ukraine
I am 43 and I haven’t believed in fairytales for a long time. I don’t even like American movies with unrealistic happy endings. I am not naïve and not even an optimist. But I believe that the story on this page of Ukraine’s history is going to end well, because it’s “David and Goliath” story.
You know who “Goliath” is. Putin is known to the world as great and powerful evil. But I want to share who “David” is and why he will slay “Goliath”. Putin will fail in Ukraine because with all his strategists and genius advisors he can not understand and predict Ukrainians. When Russian troops invaded Ukraine they needed aggression, they needed somebody to shoot. Russian news even hurried to show that Russian soldiers were killed which was not true, but Russian audience will not question that.
Meanwhile, under incredible pressure for days now Ukrainian army restrains from shooting the enemy, even if they have every right to defend their land. The women came as a live shield in front of Russian soldiers to protect Ukrainians military dislocation. Ukrainians don’t want to shoot, they are given orders not to shoot, but what will they do if Russian soldiers try to take away Ukrainian ammunition? Power of Ukraine is the goodness that has been awakened in the hearts of Ukrainians. Not only in fairytales but in real life good wins over evil!
This is the collective story of goodness that can’t be overcome by Russian guns:
The “David” is a young woman with cerebral palsy who came to volunteer in the kitchens of Trade Union House during the protests on Maidan, cutting lemons and making tea for hours with her not fully functional hands for those people in the streets.
The “David” is Kozak Mykhailo who when captured was stripped naked in the snow by riot police and forced to sing the Ukrainian national anthem, he was beaten and humiliated, but never lowered his head. He was back on Maidan as soon as he was freed.
The “David” is Metro conductor who while driving between Metro stations in the early hours after the riot police attack on Maidan, told passengers what was happening there and urged everyone to get off at the Maidan station and support the people.
The “Davids” is CEOs who took unpaid leaves to defend his Maidan.
The “Davids” are the volunteer doctors who saved wounded from under bullets while being shot at and wounded themselves.
The “Davids” are the priests who rang church bells to wake up Kiev when riot police was attacking Maidan. They helped doctors to carry wounded from battle field and turned churches into hospitals.
The “David” is an elderly lady who brought to an improvised hospital in Mykhailovsky Catherdral 200 grams of sugar, 1 orange, 1 onion, 3 cloves of garlic, 2 candies, half a bottle of vinegar and 5 Hryvna! She gave everything she had!
The “Davids” are 6,000 volunteers who self-organized to serve Maidan – pastors, cooks, medics, psychologists, lawyers, security, singers and many more.
When this is over, it’s likely that many will say that military, or political, or diplomatic, or economic powers defeated Putin. Those forces will play their role, of course. But my personal conviction is that Putin has already lost this war because time and time again Ukrainians didn’t “play” according to his rules of fear and selfishness and because these three months returned to Ukrainians their faith in God, made them cry for His forgiveness and mercy and He answered the prayers! 2 Chronicles 7:14 if my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land.
