CNN PRODUCER NOTE The Carnival Paradise provided the following statement about the rescue:
"Yesterday evening, while sailing in the Caribbean en route to Grand Cayman, the Carnival Paradise spotted a small craft in need of assistance. In keeping with a longtime tradition of aiding mariners in distress, Carnival Paradise altered its course and brought on board 24 individuals from Cuba who were provided with food, water, fresh clothing and accommodations and evaluated by the ship’s medical team.
All proper authorities were notified, including the United States Coast Guard. There was no impact to the Carnival Paradise’s itinerary and the ship arrived in Grand Cayman this morning as scheduled.
Carnival Paradise is currently on a five-day cruise that departed Tampa on Monday, part of its year-round four- and five-day schedule from that port."
